Establishing a vision for the long term future of the district heating and cooling sector within the European energy transition
As enjoyable as it is to reflect on the year that was, our priority now is of course to look forward! With the wrapping up of the Clean Energy Package negotiations expected in the first half of 2018, Euroheat & Power will close a chapter which began several years ago with the push for EU level action in the field of heating and cooling.
What will follow is for us to decide. On the policy side, we expect to shift away from the intensive regulatory activity of the past year into a ‘positioning’ mode where we seek to demonstrate exactly how DHC can contribute to the pursuit of the EU’s climate and energy ambitions up to 2030 and 2050. More than ever, this will require close cooperation between the team here in Brussels and those in the industry who will make this contribution possible in practice.
2018 will also see the development and adoption of a new three year plan for Euroheat & Power itself, with the Board playing a leading role. The plan should establish a vision for the long term future of the district heating and cooling sector within the European energy transition, refining and broadening our service offer to members and ensuring that the structure, functioning and resources of the organisation are consistent with our mission and the growing ambitions of our industry.
In the meantime, we would like to thank all our members for having been part of an eventful and encouraging 2017. We’re looking forward to sharing plenty of success with all of you this year too!
