Common advocacy work results

The Commission’s Heating and Cooling Strategy (2016) firmly established DHC as an enabler for the Energy Transition. The last 12 months were marked by a very high engagement of the whole Policy Team, together with our members, on the negotiation of a huge package of new legislation – the  Clean Energy Package for all Europeans. For EHP the work focused on the reviewed Directive on Renewables and proposals on Energy Efficiency. I am particularly happy with the final shape of the provisions on heating/cooling in the RES Directive as a result of these negotiations. The new text will anchor in European legislation the leading role of District Energy in decarbonising heating and cooling. I believe the common advocacy work with members – to coordinate actions towards national authorities – was both interesting and critical to ensure the success of advocacy in Brussels. Altogether it was a very good year and the new legislation will provide growth opportunities for DHC in Europe!
